Helmets

Giro Monza HelmetAll bike riders who live in different parts of the world might have witnessed the high hue and cry in favour and against the driving laws that insist on wearing cycling helmets while riding a bicycle. For sure, there may be valid arguments for and against such laws, but one thing is sure and certain; one will be able to nullify or minimize the injuries by wearing cycling helmets, if any accident occurs accidentally. This is one of the main reasons why almost all cyclists prefer to wear cycling helmets during riding; moreover the old adage teaches us that prevention is always better than cure!

The main parts of helmets is the ‘Shell’, the ‘Visor’, the ‘Straps’ and finallt, the ‘liner’. The shell is the layer that gives protection to the head in case of an accident, whereas the visor protects the rider from sun-light and rain. The adjustability is maintained by the straps and the inner liner is meant for giving coziness to the wearer. As a general principle almost all brands of cycling helmets are made according to some set standard sizes; they are classified as small, medium, large and extra large. The size of the small one is 51 – 55 cm, the medium is with a size of 56 – 60 cm, the large one measures 61 – 64 cm and the extra-large one will be having a size of 58 to 62 cm. In-between these regular sizes, some companies also produces a small/medium size which measures to 49 – 58 cm. These days you can also find some good quality adjustable cycling helmets.

There are basically four types of cycling helmets and they are the mountain bike, road bike, general purpose and the BMX categories; you will be able to find different kinds of the same which will suit the needs of gents, ladies and kids. Always make sure that the helmets which you wish to buy are a perfect fit for your head; otherwise it will be a real nuisance while riding.
