Kona Caldera – Kona Caldera 2012
The Kona Caldera 2012 is a hardtail mountain bike from the very successful manufacturer, Kona, who provide for bikes for some of the most successful riders of their generation. The Kona Caldera provides a little less performance than these race winning, professional bikes that they are famous for, however, it’s still good enough to win amateur races all over the world in your respected categories.
The Kona Caldera looks awesome with the black and gold clashing with the main frame which is white. The seat post, writing, tires, handlebars and a few other components strike out at you, giving a very new and modern look. The colour scheme coupled with the geometry and design make this hardtail look original and fresh. However, the geometry isn’t all about the looks, it also helps increase the stiffness of the Caldera, whilst reducing the amount of material used and therefore, the cost.
The componentry of the Kona Caldera is quite similar to the majority of Kona’s other mountain bikes. A RockShox fork and rear shock, Maxxis tires, some Shimano or SRAM components and all of it topped of by some of Kona’s in-house parts. These help to keep the price down, as they don’t have to be bought in from another manufacturer, who need to make a profit. The Kona Caldera 2012 is therefore, a mixture of different manufacturer’s, but Kona have definitely put their own, unique mark on it.
