Road Bike Tyres – The Bike Expert

Road Bike TyresRoad bikes are meant for racing needs, where speed counts a lot than comforts of the rider; you are there in a race with the sole intention of winning it and obviously speed is the main concern here. In consequent to this road bike tyres have a special task and that is allowing the rider to have maximum speed without any interruption. For attaining this criterion, road bike tyres are manufactured in distinctive ways and special attention is taken to make the tyres smooth, as far as possible; as a part of fulfilling this intention, road bike tyres are produced without treads.

Another notable feature of common road bike tyres is that they will be very light, which keeps the overall weight of the bicycle low. As a general principle, road bike tyres are manufactured with dual layers; one internal layer and another external layer. The internal layer is made up of very thin nylon fibers, which are reckoned as ‘Threads per Square’ and is generally termed as TSI. If a road bike tyre is having greater TSI, then it means that the particular tyre is lighter in weight. But there is also another decisive point; you will have to pay a little higher price for buying road bike tyres with greater TSI.

You can find two categories of road bike tyres; one is tubular and the other one is clincher; clinchers are with tube and tire, while tubular’s don’t have that. The external layer or the outer covering of road bike tyres carry no treads and will be very smooth and nimble. This type of special care is taken while producing the outer layer of road bike tyres and the main reason for that is to lessen the rolling resistance. Another reason for not fixing any treads for the outer tube is that usually racing takes place on concrete surfaces or pavements and so there is no need for treads on such surfaces.
