Schwalbe Durano – The Bike Expert
The Schwalbe Durano is a road racing tyre that offers you quite a bit more that your average tyre will. The Schwalbe Durano lasts longer than the majority of road racing tyres, with an expected tread life of over 6,500 miles which equals just over 10,000 kilometers under normal conditions, ie. the bicycle has not be loaded and is on road and under ordinary braking.
The Schwalbe Durano also has another useful weapon in it’s arsenal. It does last longer than most road tyres, however, one of the most useful aspects of the Durano is the extra grip that you receive from the dual compound material. This means that this tyre is perfect for winter training on wet roads where it can be extremely slippy and hazardous, and unfortunately even fatal.
The Schwalbe Durano goes some way in making winter cycling safer, however, I don’t believe that it will ever be 100% safe. The only ‘safe’ way to train in the dark and wet winter months is by using rollers, however, this dosen’t give the same intensity of training and the same satisfaction of training on the roads. With the Schwalbe Durano, you get an all round tyre that can be used to race or train, providing vital benefits for both and proving to be extremely versatile.
